The Blogblond Goes Anti-Anti

Don't know about you, but i am geting sick of people and groups defining themselves by what they are against instaed of what they stand for. if your group has a great idea, or a powerful agenda, why not grab a slogan that shouts poudly what you are for, instead of just ripping off someone else's slogan and saying you are against it? stop being anti-war, and start being pro something. (pro-terrorists? but that is a different rant...) don't be anti capital punishment, be pro life. oh, unless that is already taken by people you oppose... speaking of pro life, at least the other side got it right- instead of calling themselves the anti life movement (hmmmmmmmmm), they have grabbed pro choice. catchy, upbeat- choices are super cool (as long as your choice is politically correct, or watch out!) so i guess it can be done.

in this same vein, why are abortion clinics called planned parenthood? why not 'plan to not be a parent clinic'? or how about, 'if you planned better, you wouldn't be in this position'. or how about just- 'we think abortion is a smart and sound choice, so come on in and have one?' not trying to be provacative, but seriously, if you think you are right and righteous, why not shout it from the hilltops?

Maybe because Planned Parenthood is not an "abortion clinic" only offering abortions for all. Planned Parenthood offers many choices and healthcare to many women. Including OBGYN services for mothers-to-be.
And as far as the 'if you had planned better' comment, what about the women who careful planned and prepared to conceive their child but now have to decide to abort due to life threating (to them or the baby) medical conditions?
The reason pro-choice is called pro-choice, not por-abortion, because pro-choice is about someone making a choice as to whatis right for them... not about abortions for all.

okay, city girl. i must tell you that i did the whole bleeding heart liberal thing in college and that i NEVER met a SINGLE peson, either in planed parenthood, or outside of it, who went to planned parenthoood for healthcare or OB/GYN services. i usually avoid generalizations, but i am confident in this one. NO women EVER in my many and varied experiences went to planned parenthood for ANYTHING besides abortions. and, speaking woman to woman with you, if my life was in danger from my carefully planned pregnancy- or for any other reason- i would run- not walk- to the nearest hospital emergency room, or dial 911, NOT go sit in the waiting room at planned parenthood.

the reason pro-choice is called po-choice is because it is all about the narcissism and nihilism that pervades our society where a woman is conditioned throughout her whole life to believe that a child growing inside of her body is just a bit of tissue that can be disposed of like a hangnail if that's what she "chooses". so, sorry if i am not impressed by the regurgitated rhetoric, but i think you've been sold a bill of goods.

I went to Planned Parenthood when I did not have health insurance for my yearly regular gyn check ups and my birth control perscription.
I have been there while other women have been in there for their regular check during their perfectly normal pregnancy that they were not terminating.
Planned Parenthood offered these women medical assistance that is not readily available to people with low incomes and no health insurance...
Woman to Woman, I hope that if (God Forbid) you find yourself in such a life threating situation, you have the means and resources (money and insurance) to seek proper treatment... someone people only have resources like Planned Parenthood available to them.
And I am far from a "bleeding heart liberal".

city girl- first of all, i was under the impression that medicaid exists fo those with true need. and hospital emergency rooms do not turn away people for lack of insurance.

i am happy for you that you had a good experience with planned parenthood, but their name is misleading, and that casts doubt on their whole operation.

as far as going there for prenatal care, i went once to get confirmation of my pregnancy- i was six months along and couldn't get insurance without confimation of the pregnancy, so i needed a blood test- and they practically threw me out the window. i got a bunch of angry looks- like, how dare you be visibly pregnant here with all these women waiting to have abortions... i was finally wisked off into a back room, given my test results, and asked politely to leave and given a short lecture on being more sensitive to their "clientele". so, i don't know where you went for GYN care, but from everyone i know, your experience is the exception and not the rule.

anyway, my point still holds. their political agenda is CLEARLY about abortion "rights", so the name planned parenthood is a farce.

i agree with evan about the name 'planned singlehood.'

and for anysara- i love you, but i won't be eating any words until planned parenthood gets at the forefront of breast cancer and other gynecologcal cancer research, provides non-biased health care and eduaction to women, and stops throwing their resources only behind causes that allow women to kill their babies. then they can claim that they are all about women's health issues. ..partial birth abortions and the "right" for minor children to abort without even notification (much less consent!)to the parents? that is soooooooo not an agenda of health for anyone involved...

Oh, Photochic, I think breast cancer is so popular with researchers is because it is very popular with The Grim Ripper. Excluding cancers of the skin, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women (1 in 3 cancers diagnosed in US women). Even men get breast cancer with mortality of about 500 men a year just in the US. See the American Cancer Society publication on the topic at http://www.cancer.org/downloads/STT/CAFF2005BrF.pdf

Photochic, if you have access to this blog, I am pretty sure you can hit Google too. I would recommend you do about 3 minutes of clicking and you will find that there is huge amounts of research going on in any kind of cancer. You are right, breast cancer has captured the media's attention for the reasons I have mentioned above, but there is plenty of opportunity to contribute to other causes only if you look for it. You are obviously invested in it, given your unfortunate circumstances (my condolensces, by the way). I worked in a genetics lab for two years back in my post-college days alongside with a prof who was looking for a gene responsible for ovarian cancer, and I promise you, she won't say no if you offered her money. I can give you her contact info if you wish.

BlogBlond, Grim Ripper is Malach HaMavet, Jack The Ripper is my father :) As far as my wife - she knows about my new hobby of hounding (or haunting) your blog. She is happy as it keeps me off her back. Ahem. I mean I can take my frustrations out on your blog.

No, I actually meant the Grim Ripper. It's an innovative new pruning device that has no moving parts. Rather than relying on hand grip strength like traditional secateurs, the Grim Ripper uses the strength of the full arm.

    See it here.

Alright, alright, I am a foreigner - I have an inalienable right to be illiterate.
