D-Files and D-Philes
ever since my good friend d wrote about my blog on his, i have literally had hundreds of new hits on my blog. the thing is, these new "hitters" are of the lurking variety. i am always excited to see that new (or old!) people have visited the blog. but those who read and run are vaguely like a one night stand who doesn't even kiss you goodbye on the way out. you're left wondering, "was it me?" it's not that you expect closure, per se. more that you want the experience to have a beginning, a middle, and an end. like veni, vidi, vici. only in this case, it would be, "i came, i read, i commented".
i know there are people who view blogs like newspapers or magazines- you peruse them at your leisure and then toss them in the hamster cage. i want my blog to be more than that. i am not arrogant or narcisstic enough to belive that my ramblings here will light you on fire with profound new thoughts- at least not all the time :) i am totally not into blogs where there are 57 comments and every one of them is basically, "you are so right! i totally agree with you!" if my ego is going to be stroked, i want it to be earned, deserved, and meaningful. i'm older and happier and not into gratuitous flattery. but, say something. even once in a while.
i'm having a good laugh over the idea that the cookie whore post has received the most comments ever. which just goes to show, it's all about the edge...
and thanks, d

after talking to people, i've found that there are many who feel uncomfortable commenting. i happen to love it - i like the whole interactive element and i often feel more at ease writing my opinions than articulating them...but that's me (and you). so be happy that your work is being read - and don't take it personally when people don't write.
your message is getting across.

umm, speaking of which - it would be nice if you commented my MY blog once in a while :)

Fuuny, I used to be petrified that people were commenting, reading...It was like 'ah, the truth is out about me' but I see the value in hearing others' oppinions, even one's I do not know. And if I can somehow entertain, make someone think, or even change their life, simply by what I'm writing without having them comment, so be it!
I've noticed also, people comment on yours, when you comment on theirs. Just enjoy it and have some fun with it!

ok - some unasked for advice blondie -
so when you refer to "d", you should hotlink to his blog, and when you refer to his comments about you, you should hotlink to that posting.
because otherwise, we (and i speak for your entire readership, other than possibly josh who seems to know you, your husband, your friends and your edgy neighborhood) have no idea who d is and what he wrote about.
see - now that's a comment! (unlike the commentless comment you left on my blog)

Whoa, Mata Hari, remember that this is BB who does not have full-time tech support. she has a link to D's blog in the Links portion (see left) and D's blog is well worth reading in full to find out exactly where he referenced our BB. :)

If someone talks about you in your absence your ears are supposed to burn, right? So what burns when someone blogs about you?
No problem on the link, BB. I'm always happy to use what little influence I have.
